Mantras or mantrams are sacred sounds, syllables, words, phrases, and the names of God that we can repeat to uplift our consciousness and to find union with God. We can repeat them silently, out loud, or chant them.

       Mantra yoga or japa yoga is the repetition of mantras to achieve union with God. The word yoga comes from the root word "yoke" or "to yoke", that is, to join together, or to find union with. So the purpose of all yoga is to find union with God, and the repeating these mantras, prayers, and affirmations can help us do that.

       The dialogue came up because someone said to her (Elizabeth Clare Prophet) - in regard to mantras - that what was unusual about (some of the) mantras (in the Summit Lighthouse) is that they were in English. And aren't most people used to hearing mantras in Sanskrit? she asked Elizabeth Clare Prophet

       Elizabeth Clare Prophet's reply: "The ascended masters who have come forward to give the teaching of God in this age have explained that it is important that people understand the meaning of the mantra. English is a peculiar language. It has gone through many histories.

       English comes down through the ancient tongues of Atlantis and has a particular vibration and an affinity, believe it or not, to a certain angelic tongue. And therefore there is a special energy for this age that actually comes through the English language. I think this is the real reason for English traveling around the world through the discoveries and explorations of the British Empire. The name of God, I AM THAT I AM, has a vibration and a frequency in English that it does not have in any other Western language.

       I recently read a study that indicated that Gaelic and Irish are similar to Hebrew and that the Hebrew patterns were actually transferred by the tribes of Israel as they dispersed throughout the earth. Prior to the Hebrew tongue, there were the tongues that were spoken on Atlantis, and prior to that the languages that were spoken by the early root races on Lemuria. Sanskrit comes down from the early Lemurian tongue."

       There are three main ways to do mantras, and they are:
1. silently, or within our mind or heart,
2. orally or in a spoken voice, and
3. by chanting or singing them.

       It is important to remember that mantras do the most good, that is, they are the most effective when they are done with love and devotion, that is, with the love or fire of the heart.

       The following is part of a prayer from the Hearts Center, and is a beautiful teaching that we may meditate on:

       The term "Guru Ma" means that the Teacher (Guru) is devoted to the Divine Mother (Ma) of us all and to the teaching of her sons who, throughout the ages, East and West, have exemplified the soul's integration with God through the universal Light, manifest as the incarnate Word. Through the messenger's devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to the feminine principle in every soul, she was given the mantle of bearing the Mother flame. Concerning the path of the Mother, Lanello has explained that "when you say Ma, it is the acknowledgment that in the one Guru Mother [God as Mother, the Omega Light of Cosmos] the entire chain of Gurus is manifest. Whether Mother or Maitreya, it is the Ma of a cosmos that rings....That sounding of the name is the sounding of the cry for help. And all of the four cosmic forces who bow before her throne of grace will respond upon the call of the chelas near and far." Lanello, April 8, 1979.""

       "So, my little ones, so, my precious souls, so, my sons and daughters, come into the arms of Brahma and know me as the figure of one who creates and re-creates and re-creates so that the whole of creation is in that process of being born again and reborn and reborn until the fullness of being is discovered –- and the fullness of purpose of a blade of grass, of the tiniest elemental, of an angel, of a star is made known."        Shiva has given a teaching in the Summit Lighthouse on the use of his name as a mantra and a fiat.

       "Shiva's consort, or Shakti, appears in three primary forms. Shakti means “power.” It is the Feminine Principle of the Godhead, the Divine Mother who went forth out of the Divine Whole. Shiva's main shaktis are Parvati, daughter of the god Himalaya, a benevolent goddess and devoted wife; Durga, “the unfathomable one,” known as the destroyer of demons; and Kali, “the power of time.” Kali is a symbol of destruction, who appears with black skin wearing a necklace of skulls. Yet she bestows blessings upon those who seek knowledge of God and is revered by her devotees as the Divine Mother. As you know, she was the chosen deity of Ramakrishna.

       Lord Shiva lives on the summit of the sacred Mount Kailasa in Tibet. He is pictured there both as a solitary ascetic and with his Shakti, Parvati."

        The Divine Mother in her manifestation as Sarasvati is the Shakti of Brahma. Brahma is known as the Creator in the Hindu Trinity. The Ascended Masters teach us that Brahma is parallel to God the Father in the Western Trinity. He is the Divine Lawgiver, the source of all knowledge. Together, Brahma and Sarasvati are the embodiment of cosmic force.

       Sarasvati is known as the Goddess of the Word. She is identified with Vac, the Word. She represents eloquence and articulates the wisdom of the Law. She is the Mother/Teacher to those of us who love the Law, revealed by Brahma. And she is the power of volition, the will and motivation to be the Law in action. Sarasvati represents the union of power and intelligence from which organized creation arises.

       When you use the name of God to claim the I AM as God's being and be-ness within you, then you have that claim to all which follows, and therefore you can take the mantra of Jesus Christ, “I AM the way, the truth, and the life,” and you may participate in that glorious life that he lived.

       By simply saying the name “Saint Germain” the surroundings may be filled with the violet flame, because his name alone is a mantram.

       "Understand, then, that it is movement to the Great God Self within that is your salvation in this age, that all problems of the economy, the ecology, and the government can be resolved if you will take only ten minutes each day to go within and to find your own God Self, to meditate and to use the science of the spoken Word whereby you chant the mantra of the free: “I AM a being of violet fire–I AM the purity God desires!” This is my mantra which I give to you as your initiation into the Aquarian age. Will you not repeat it with me now? [“I AM a being of violet fire–I AM the purity God desires!”]"

       "Let the value of life rest upon a gold standard that comes from the golden rule, which is the principle of the divine economy—do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This golden rule is applied to the gold of the heart, the golden wisdom that serves the needs of the community through love—applied love that becomes compassion, charity, and the sharing of the joys of the abundant life with those who entertain the impoverished sense.

       If you ask me why the economy of America is in such a disastrous state, I will tell you that it is because not enough people care for God or for one another. They see solutions only in terms of more money and more government control and the regulation of life. But without heart or attunement with the threefold flame of Life that is the spark of each one's divinity, the light of God does not flow to meet the needs of the people.

       This week you have received my Valentine of old—“A Call to Hearts of Gold.” Included in it is my mantra for the healing of the economies of the nations, “I AM the Light of the Heart.” It takes many hearts to make one great heart of light that becomes the heart of a nation—just as it takes many drops of rain to form the mighty river of life and many souls serving as one to manifest the body of God on earth.

       Therefore I enlist the sweet and simple souls who have adored my purple fiery heart for centuries while the exclusive ones have excluded themselves from my circle, for the path of simplicity of the heart has been an affront to their worldly wisdom. Let these children of my heart now rally as minutemen and women of the flame of freedom and take my mantra of the heart as a perpetual mantra that flows through the mind even as it flows through the arteries of commerce, business, banking, and that Federal Reserve system which is the “non-reserve” of the nation's money system.

       You have heard of the perpetual prayer of the pilgrim of God. You have heard of the Indian gurus who recommend to their chelas the recitation of a single mantra hundreds of times a day as they go about their normal activities. “Pray without ceasing” <8> is the answer that I give to those who cry out for deliverance from the oppressive weight of the top-heavy economy.

       Take this mantra then, my noble of heart, and alternate it with that old-time favorite to Helios and Vesta, to the sun center of the flow of the abundant life, and let us see what we can still do to stave off impending destruction.There are some economists in America who have seen the dangers for years. They wonder why the collapse has not already occurred. I will tell you, my beloved. A little violet flame goes a long, long way. Legions of light multiply your calls to the violet flame hour by hour and apply the sacred alchemy of the law of transmutation to the problems of the economy."

       "With this gift of infinite freedom from God's own heart this Valentineseason, I close this epistle with a never-ending promise to assist youto find your immortal freedom as you determine never to give up andnever to turn back. Remember that as long as you face the Light, theshadows are always behind. And the Light is there, too, to transmutethem all."

       Mother Mary made her ascension or assumption. She is the Ascended Lady Master Mother Mary. She is also the twin flame of Archangel Raphael, that is, she is an archeia. There is the ablution of the earth element.

       Thus, to continue [on the subject] of doubt and fear and such substances: When you have embarked upon a course, when you have set a matrix and you have said, “This I will fulfill and by this matrix I shall be made whole,” and along come the fallen ones and they attempt to remove you from that seat of the vision of perfection and wholeness, they taunt you with this and that, they distract you, they take you from your concentration and all of a sudden you are feeling a little burdened and [you hear yourself] saying, “I am not so sure, I am not so sure”–that is when you must say in the very teeth of all of error's projections: "In the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I trust!""

       Kuan Yin reminds us of Jesus’ words expressed in “his hour of anguish” on the cross, that are a magnificent example of compassion and mercy and forgiveness; and she suggests they become our personal mantra “whenever [we] observe something that seems out of place, unjust or not according to the principles that [we] follow in [our] life.” Kuan Yin asks, “If the Lord could do this, can you not forgive those who trespass against you, who in any way seem to ignite or incite the fire of reaction within you.”

Mantras for the Celebration
of the Buddha and the Mother

       In order to greet the Buddha who resides in the secret chamber of the heart, whose chakra is the thousand-petaled lotus of the crown, we desire to raise the sacred fire of the Divine Mother (the Kundalini) from the base chakra of the Mother to the crown chakra of the Buddha.

       And so it is the Divine Mother within us, and our souls' oneness with the Divine Mother in adoration of the Buddha, that causes the light to rise from the base. The Mother is in love with Buddha. The Buddha is in love with Mother. And the Lord Buddha (Yang) draws our Mother to that crown. And our Mother (Yin) is rising to greet her Lord. This is the plus/minus polarity of Alpha and Omega that we would experience in our body temple.

       This is the purpose of our giving these Buddhist mantras. It is an exercise in the science of the spoken Word-that Word who in the beginning was with Brahman: without whom "was not anything made that was made."

       I would ask you to center your attention in your heart and to realize that it is the flame of your heart that allows you to participate in the ritual of the union of the Father-Mother God in your chakras. Once the Mother reaches the crown chakra she, escorted by her Lord, descends to the secret chamber of the heart where they give birth to the Inner Buddha.

Gayatri Mantra:

       The Gayatri mantra is one of the oldest and most powerful of Sanskrit mantras. It is believed that by chanting the Gayatri mantra and firmly establishing it in the mind, if you carry on your life and do the work that is ordained for you, your life will be full of happiness.
        The word "Gayatri" itself explains the reason for the existence of this mantra. It has its origin in the Sanskrit phrase Gayantam Triyate iti, and refers to that mantra which rescues the chanter from all adverse situations that may lead to mortality. The Gayatri Mantra inspires wisdom.Its meaning is that "May the Almighty God illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path".

Other Translations of the Mantra:

1. Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,
Remover of pain and sorrow,
The Bestower of happiness,
Oh! Creator of the Universe,
May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,
May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.

2. We contemplate the glory of Light illuminating the three worlds:
gross, subtle, and causal.
I am that vivifying power, love, radiant illumination, and divine grace ofuniversal intelligence.
We pray for the divine light to illumine our minds.

3. "O thou existence Absolute, Creator of the three dimensions, wecontemplate upon thy divine light. May He stimulate our intellect and bestowupon us true knowledge."
